Views of Japan: Ashinoko on a Cloudy Day

Ashinoko (Lake Ashi) in Hakone, is one of my favorite places in Japan. The area is a major tourist attraction (with good reason), but it’s also an excellent place to walk, and hike, and climb–and shoot photos.

Ashinoko is a volcanic lake, created about 3,000 years ago by the eruption and collapse of Kamiyama (the shoulder of which rises from the lake on the right side of the frame below).

I love the lake in all her moods, but particularly when the light and the clouds give me the chance to shoot “monochrome in color” images like this one.

My wish is to get to Hakone one day. I might even be able to see Mt. Fuji from there!

    Have a great week.
