Read-a-Thon Challenge: Banning the Brothers Grimm

Midnight Book Girl is offering up the hour 17 Read-a-Thon challenge: “Ban This Book!”  The challenge is to point out how easily any book can fall under the ban (you see what I did there…) by making your best ridiculous arguments to ban something you’re reading at present.  Tesla and I offer the following:

After reading Grimm’s Complete Fairy Tales, I believe it completely unsuitable for consumption by the general public.  Not only is it filled with violence and brutality of all sorts, including wife-beating, the violent murder of innocent creatures* and even cannibalism, the book also seeks to impose “morals” upon its readers!  Case in point: the tale of “stupid Hans” – a name designed to lower the self-esteem of anyone named Hans – who is nonetheless called “better” than his brothers for giving his small share of bread to a beggar by the side of the road – when everyone knows that calling one child better than the others will make the rest feel badly about themselves!  With stories like this, people might start believing crazy notions like “objective” right and wrong!!  This is truly a dangerous book which must be banned immediately.

This is so funny, I snorted twice.
You both did a great job! How is the reading coming along?

Thanks for all the comments and cheers! This was a great challenge, and we enjoyed doing it, especially because it was one my teenage son could help with.
