At the Risk of Insensitivity…

May I ask why telemarketers refuse to cooperate with the request to remove my name and contact information from their call lists?

I am on the do not call list.

I am not interested in purchasing additional advertising for my business. (Actually, I don’t buy any advertising. My client list grows through referrals now.)

I am definitely not interested in interrupting useful work to listen to someone describe the various ways of transferring my hard-earned dollars to someone else’s pockets. (I am quite skilled, and well practiced, in depriving myself of money without assistance.)

It would be bad enough if the calls were one-offs, unique attempts to market products and services I do not need but hadn’t heard about before. As it is, the same five companies call me – Every. Single. Week. I’m about one M&M’s worth of frustration away from turning them into my Personal Pinatas of Public Self-Amusement.

Do not tempt me, Online Yellow Pages Company That Shall Remain Nameless. It wastes your time, and mine, and the last thing you really want is an attorney-writer with time and irritation on her hands.

Trust me on this one.

Anyone else frustrated by persistent and irritating solicitors? (And yes, I’m on the Do Not Call list. They do not seem to care.)

Have you asked them directly to remove yourself from THEIR list? I’ve read that it qualifies as harassment if you make the request and they don’t comply.

(Yes, they’re annoying. The first thing I do anymore is tell them to remove me from their calling list.)

Yep – I’ve asked them directly nine times. Here in California, it’s definitely harassment because they do have to take you off the list if you ask. I’ve considered reporting the behavior, but that takes more time than I care to spend…yet. If it continues, though, I might just have to find the time somewhere.
