Agent…Versus…Author….FIGHT! (Or Not)

To read the publishing/author/indie bookseller blogs, one would think a war was raging within the usually collegial publishing field. The vehement emotion reminds me of a Barcelona pub when RealMadrid is up 4 goals to 2. On the one side, traditional publishing continues to claim the crown. On the other, independent/self-published authors seem to be building a gallows. But in recent days, a third side has emerged from the shadows – the one I’ve been on for quite some time, and which finally seems to be getting the airtime it so desperately deserves. Victory in a Minor Key

I don’t consider this blog a forum for recounting my personal tribulations. I have them, like everyone else, but you don’t stop by to hear about my sorrows and I’m disinclined to become “that friend” who seems one step shy of a breakdown or going postal. I do, however, like to share triumphs, even the small ones, in case they can brighten someone else’s day. Today’s triumph is named Cygnus, and he isn’t a little seahorse anymore. A Belated Happy New Year

Last week was Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year and first of the autumn High Holy Days. Here’s wishing all our Jewish readers Shana Tova. The image merits a little explanation. Last Friday morning I discovered my tuxedo urchin, Wilson, wearing a plastic bottle cap on his “head” (which is really his rear, but we’ll pretend otherwise). I keep the cap on top of the tank for measuring purposes, but it must have fallen into the water, where the fashion-conscious Wilson retrieved it and put it on.
